WEEK 8
Anyone else wondering what that strange object behind the outfield fences was?
During Sunday’s games at Mills Pond Park, what appeared to be a bush was spotted, but never in the same location. It was in left field, right field…. it even somehow wound up behind Field 4 for the 10 a.m. game after being situated at Field 3 at 9 a.m.
Suspicions really were aroused after We B Zellin’ coach Robert Smith, whose team was off Sunday, was seen talking to the plant at one point. Some attributed this to Smith’s eccentricities. Others weren’t so sure. At one point, Zellin’ Director of Scouting Belinda Long was seen talking to Smith, then hurried away carrying what appeared to be a camera. She also appeared to have scratches on have arms and legs that could have been caused by, say, branches?
Might we have another Spygate on our hands?
We may never know what the reputed camera might show, but what did come into clearer focus Sunday was the playoff picture.
Jaded swept its two games, downing Chico’s Bail Bonds and the Real McCoys, to improve to 8-1 and lock up the top seed in the upcoming playoffs. Jaded (8-1) will play the winner of game between the fourth- and fifth seeded teams at 11 a.m. June 1.
Jaded had its most impressive offensive showing of the season, combining for 46 runs. Leading the way was Jean-Louis Monzon, who had three home runs and a triple, was on base eight times and scored seven runs in the double-header. Sean D’Oliveira had six hits in the two games and Dad Steve had five, including two-run opposite field home run that short-hopped the fence in right-center field. Joe Sachitano was 6 for 7, and wife Angela Sachitano scored three times in the first game.
The McCoys earlier defeated AFDI 29-3, but both teams locked up playoff berths, thanks to the losses by the Bail Bonds and In The Red, which fell to the Boss Players 19-7.
The Boss Players play a pivotal game in two weeks, after the Mother’s Day break, against the Real McCoys. A win and they secure the playoff second seed, regardless on how We B. Zellin’ fares, and would play the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 6 teams at 11 a.m. June 1. A loss and John O’Connell’s bunch would be either the third or fourth seed, depending on how the McCoys fare in their makeup game against the Bail Bonds the same day.
